Purim Checklist – Day 2 to the Countdown of Purim Fun

March 14, 2014 By jwrdirector

Purim Checklist - Day 2 of the Countdown
Purim Checklist – Day 2 of the Countdown

Purim Checklist

is all that you need on Day 2 because you reached this day for the Purim Festival is soon here!  For the year 2014, Saturday, March 15th at sundown.

We say Chag Sameach Purim!

The festival was created, observed for the bravery that Queen Esther took upon herself.  With her Cousin Mordecai as her guide.  Being Queen has its advantages and disadvantages.  For Queen Esther could not be her true self and hide her true identity on being Jewish.  Especially since King Asharvus was not.   Would it have been a problem back in ancient times?  Based on history of the Jewish people, most likely.  The advantage for Queen Esther turned out to be a favorable one.  For she became known as the Queen who saved her people.

Your Purim Checklist will assist you with all you have put together and all that may be missing.

Purim Checklist:

The Purim Story

Purim Story - the Scroll of Esther
Purim Story – the Scroll of Esther

offers you to connect to what happen and how it happened.  Reading the story is an important factor when celebrating the Festival of Purim.  So, of course, the top of your Purim Checklist is the Purim Story.  Have you read brief overviews about the story of Esther?

You will need the Purim Blessings that are recited before we read the Purim Story.

For next year, purchase the Tanakh for the Story of Esther.

Purim Grogger - the essential noisemaker
Purim Grogger – the essential noisemaker

 Purim Grogger

the Purim Story is not complete without your noisy noisemaker, the Purim Grogger.  Why you ask, well, it is so when you hear in the Purim Story, the Villain’s name, Haman, we are commanded (required) to drown it out.  Besides, it is fun to make the grogger turn and hear its sound.

Purim Costumes

is a must have, well mostly the Purim Mask.  In the Purim Story, Queen Esther hid her identity and we wear a mask on Purim doing the same.  Except, we are observing it mostly because we get to show a side of ourselves when we are on a comfortable level.  Costumes are worn to symbolize the hidden miracle.  For Queen Esther took a huge chance with her life to save her people.

Hamantaschen Recipe

Hamantaschen is the triangle cookie we enjoy with the sweet and sometimes nutty center.  Adding foods from the walnut or pecan food family is optional.  Especially, with nut food allergies.  The triangle shape is reflective on the hat that the Villain, Haman wore.  With a cookie being sweet tasting and that added surprise of the center takes us to celebrate that Haman’s plan was discovered before it ever happened.  Besides, a festival, Shabbat, a celebration, a holiday,  including honoring a person’s life, food is always present.  Food sustains life.

Purim Carnival Ideas

A festive party should include fun games.  This is one Jewish Festival that is encouraged to have carnival like games.  Adults should participate as much as children.  Purim is not just for children.
