Jewish weddin glass is an essential piece to conclude the chuppah wedding ceremony.

The Jewish Glass Breaking Ceremony is an important part of the Jewish wedding and full of symbolism.

The groom breaks the glass with his right foot is at the conclusion of the Jewish wedding ceremony. One tradition is it reminds us of the destruction of the Holy Temple. However, it’s not the right time for a history lesson.

Why Do Jewish Weddings Break the Glass?

For a marriage, the breaking of glass is a gently warning of the frailty of a marriage. It can be in ways that are very difficult to undo – just as it would be difficult to undo the breaking of the glass. Knowing that this marriage will not break so easily, the brides and the grooms should strive to show each other’s love, respect, and commitment.

Once the glass breaks, the guests rejoice, join voices with shouts of ‘Mazel Tov!’

Glass Smashing Jewish Wedding

This custom is connected with excitement for the wedding couple becomes married. Family and friends look forward to watching the person or the couple breaking the glass. If missed and finally breaks after the second or third time it is quite amusing. No matter how many times it takes to break, and when it does, the celebration begins! The couple seals all with a kiss!

After the Ceremony

The shards of glass are saved and placed in a piece of art and displayed in the bride and groom’s home.  Jewish Wedding Judaica, a small shop from the Jewish Wedding Rabbi is available to purchase for your wedding ceremony.
